Glory to Jesus Christ!
The Dormition Fast is nearly upon us! Occurring from August 1 – 14, and concluding with the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God on August 15, the Dormition Fast is one of the four main fasting seasons of the church. This season is a wonderful opportunity to draw near to the Lord and to turn away from ourselves. Far from being a means to judge others, to create a sense of self-righteousness, or an opportunity to merely “follow the rules”, fasting is an opportunity to be made in the image of Christ. It is a tool for holiness with the help of God. As St. Symeon the New Theologian (+1022) writes:
For fasting, and vigils, and sleeping on the floor, and prostrations, and praying, and every other suffering of evil is nothing without Divine grace.

August 4 – Brief Parish Meeting
As a reminder, there will be a brief parish meeting during coffee hour following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 4. The purpose, along with a few smaller “housekeeping” items, will be to select delegates for the upcoming archdiocesan Sobor scheduled to take place at the Metropolia Center of St. Andrew in South Bound Brook, NJ on October 16-19, 2019.
See here for more details regarding the Sobor.
Yard Cleanup Day
Attention all gardeners, weed pullers, and mulchers! We will be having a yard cleanup day at the church on Saturday, July 6, 2019, starting at 9:00 am.
No skills are necessary but if possible, but any available tools (rakes, brooms , shovels, gloves, hedge trimmers, pruners, wheelbarrows, etc.) will be great appreciated!
The more people that show up, the easier the job, and the sooner we can end. Come and join in!
New Bible Study Time
Please note that the Wednesday evening Bible study has been moved to Tuesday evenings. The study will begin at the the same time (8pm), following choir practice. Thanks and we hope to see you there!
Youth Group + Sunday School Wrap-Up
Congratulations to our students who completed the 2018-2019 Youth Group / Sunday School year!
Our kids were quite busy this year: earning of a St. George Scout Medal for one of our elementary aged boys, a new church sidewalk built as a Scout service project by one of our high school boys, several various book + topical studies by the youth group, and most importantly (and often overlooked) their valued and continued participation in the liturgical life of the church.
A big thank you to Joe and Ginny S. who led and hosted our youth group, as well as other families who hosted and chipped in!
