Parish Work Day

11 September 2021 at 15:00

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Please note that we have scheduled Friday, September 17 (6 pm to 9 pm) and Saturday, September 18 (10 am to 2 pm) as Parish Work Days – no experience is needed, as the skills needed are limited.  This is in anticipation of our re-establishing Coffee Hour after Liturgy in the coming weeks, with the (cautious) relaxation of some of the pandemic restrictions.  The tasks that need to be accomplished are mostly due to the new kitchen renovations/construction, and the lack of recent use, and include things such as installing handles on the new kitchen cabinets, bringing supplies up from the basement, filling and organizing the kitchen cabinets, general cleaning, etc. … there are things that can be done by people of all ages and physical abilities, so please make an effort to come out and participate.

Please contact Alex Krowzow via home phone (410-420-0498) or email (alkrowzow@gmail.com) and let him know of your availability (please note that this is a new email for Alex).

Thanks!  I look forward to seeing you, and worshiping with you, soon!  Take care, and have a good evening.

With love in Christ,

frGregory

Christ the Bridegroom
See! The Bridegroom sets forth in the dead of night. And blessed is that servant whom he shall find on watch; unworthy the one he shall come upon lazing. See to it, soul, that sleep does not overtake you, lest you be given up to death and be shut out of the kingdom. Bestir yourself, then, and sing out: “Holy, holy, holy are You, our God; by the power of Your Cross, save us.”.

2nd Sunday of Great Lent: Sunday of Saint Gregory Palamas

26 March 2021 at 12:15

This coming Sunday, March 28, is the second Sunday of Great Lent and the Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas.

The readings from Holy Scripture are: Hebrews 1:10-2:3  (Epistle), and Mark 2:1-12 (Gospel).

As each Sunday of Lent has its own spiritual theme and historical context, we know that the Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas is of a later origin. Of this day we are told:

This Sunday was originally dedicated to Saint Polycarp of Smyrna (February 23). After his glorification in 1368, a second commemoration of Saint Gregory Palamas (November 14) was appointed for the Second Sunday of Great Lent as a second “Triumph of Orthodoxy.”

To learn more about this day, including what it means for our spiritual lives, see the podcast episode on the Second Sunday of Lent by Fr. Thomas Hopko and the article A Man Fully Alive by Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick.

Feast of the Annunciation

24 March 2021 at 19:30

Today, March 25, we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation of Our Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.

Today is the beginning of our salvation, / the revelation of the eternal mystery! / The Son of God becomes the Son of the Virgin / as Gabriel announces the coming of Grace. / Together with him let us cry to the Theotokos: / Hail, O Full of Grace, / the Lord is with You!

Troparion for the Feast of the Annunciation

This Great Feast of the Church commemorates the announcement by Gabriel the Archangel to the Virgin Mary that the Son of God, Our Lord Jesus Christ, would become flesh of her flesh and enter into the world through her womb for the salvation of the world. (Luke 1:28-36., cf. John 1:4)

This day is one of the oldest feasts celebrated by the Church. It also serves as notice that Christmas is 9 months away!
