New Roof Needed! Your Help Needed!

2 February 2024 at 06:00

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Dear Members, Family, and Friends of Four Evangelists Orthodox Church,

The temple of Four Evangelists Orthodox Church needs a new roof. Estimates indicate that costs will be approximately $15,000, including new gutters and soffits, but excluding any replacement of the subroof. Unfortunately, we lack proper funding at the present time.

With thankfulness for a recent generous gift of $5,000, we are now in a better position to begin this project in the form of a financial campaign. So we, your brothers and sisters at Four Evangelists, humbly ask for your help in order to complete this task.

Four Evangelists Orthodox Church - Church Roof Campaign-5k

A church roof may seem a small part in the course of the Great Commission given us by Christ, that all nations may be baptized into His Body, yet as our roof deteriorates, so too does our ability to fittingly worship God and administer the sacraments of Christ according to the Orthodox tradition for the salvation of souls. Without a roof in working order, the House of God at 528 N. Hickory Avenue,  if not dutifully maintained and funded, may cease entirely.

There are three ways to give: visit our online-giving page, send a financial gift to Four Evangelists Orthodox Church, P. O. Box 971 Bel Air, Maryland 21014, or visit us in person for Saturday evening Vespers at 6pm or the Sunday morning Divine Liturgy at 9am.

Most humbly,

Your family in Christ at Four Evangelists Orthodox Church

Reminder! Feast of the Meeting of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple

31 January 2024 at 13:00

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Hail, Virgin Theotokos, full of grace! * From you shone the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God, * enlightening those who were in darkness! / Rejoice, O righteous Elder; * you received in your arms the Redeemer of our souls, * Who grants us the Resurrection.

Troparion for the Feast of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple

This coming Friday, 02 February 2024, is the Feast of the Meeting of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple, one of the twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church (and also one of the most ancient festivals of the Church, being attested to already in the early 300’s).

Please join us at 6.00 pm on Thursday, 01 February 2024, as we celebrate Vespers for the Feast of the Meeting of our Lord. Following Vespers will be the Blessing of Candles, a tradition common to this “festival of light” (cf. Luke 2:32). If you have candles that you would like to be blessed, please bring them with you to church.

All are welcome!

Speaking of light, enjoy this wonderful article by Fr. Stephen Freeman on the connection between Ground Hog’s Day and the Feast of the Meeting of our Lord: Candlewax and Hedgehogs – Groundhog Day.

When You, O Lord were baptized in the Jordan / the worship of the Trinity was made manifest / for the voice of the Father bore witness to You / and called You His beloved Son. / And the Spirit, in the form of a dove, / confirmed the truthfulness of His word. / O Christ, our God, You have revealed Yourself / and have enlightened the world, glory to You!
